Mythology combines with travel advice, history and excitement in tales and adventures of Greece and the Greek Islands ...
Hello all! and welcome to my website.
I am a Philhellene who specializes in writing about Greece, its magnificent islands and its tantalizing people. During many years of travel, I visited sixteen Greek islands, lived for two summers on Mykonos, and have spent many months on Crete.

I have written one novel, am working on a second, and have been published in Odyssey magazine, The Athens News, Greece-In-Print, the magazine of the Hellenic Literary Society, The Hellenic News, and The Hellenic Times. I was the 'author on board' The Olympic, a Greek-owned cruise ship that made its maiden voyage a few years ago to Venice, Croatia, Turkey, and Greece, and was a special guest on a superb sailing cruise in the Cycladic Islands (read the stories).

ARTICLES ON GREECE BY AURELIA A LONE RED APPLE NEW BOOK BY AURELIA

I have two residences in Pennsylvania, one in the city of Pittsburgh and the other on a farm in the center of the State. For the past twenty some years my husband, Dr. John Smeltz, and I have lived in Greenwich, England, during July and August. I travel to the Greek islands as often as possible and have been fortunate to make many wonderful friends in the U.K. and Greece and to experience both countries as a traveler and not a tourist.

I was graduated from Duquesne University where I was a classics major. My husband was a member of Duquesne's Department of English faculty, completed research in the famed Reading Room of The British Library, and translated and published Latin manuscripts. His work took us to London for the summers and gave me a base for frequent travel to Greece.

AURELIA'S GUIDE TO THE CYCLADIC SISTERS: MYKONOS, DELOS, AND RHINIA AURELIA'S GUIDE TO THE CYCLADIC SISTERS
The magic of Greece is in its very ambiguity, in the tensions that pull it from one wonderful, delicious extreme to the other. The senses are pleased and pampered by the serene beauty of Greece found in the depth of its vistas, the spectacular sunrises and sunsets, and the radiance of the light that even the poets cannot adequately describe. The senses are titillated and tempted, also, by Greece's extremes ... read more

In central Greece, Messolonghi rests sleepily in the arms of the rivers Acheloos and Evinos at the northern end of the entrance to the Gulf of Patras, much as it did in ancient times.
